Beatriz Milhazes

Beatriz Milhazes is a Brazilian artist born in 1960 who seems to love the design of geometric shapes and wavy lines (http://www.jamescohan.com/artists/beatriz-milhazes/). His art work is very outstanding and grabbed my attention flipping through the pages in our text book. He creates his artwork in such away making his geometric and wavy lines come alive.

Art, art ART.

The artwork created by howling wolf called, treaty signing at medicine creek lodge, and the artwork created by John Taylor and called, Treaty Signing at Medicine Creek Lodge are works of art trying to represent a place in time. The artwork that is the most representational would have to be John Taylor’s, because it shows almost like a picture taken back then, showing the most realism. The two artworks differ in form because John Taylor used ink to create his work of art and Howling wolf used, pencil, crayon and ink on paper (39). Howling Wolf probably wanted to show that “medicine creek” is healing the two groups together. The two artists use space differently in their artwork because they both have different knowledge on how to draw a picture. John Taylor has had education in art and Howling Wolf has had different education on how thing should look in art.
The two pieces of art are going to differ in how the people in the artwork will look because the two artists come from two different places and have different morals, and values. Howling wolf’s artwork shows great respect to his people and shows how much of a role women carry in his culture. John Taylor express how he believes the Native Americans looked compared to what he has seen all his life. The artworks are amazing in showing how others can show the same meaning of a place and time but use different representation to show the meanings.

Trash Island

Trash Island

The piece of artwork created by Chester Arnold called “Fate of Durable Goods” created in the year 1990, located in the Nevada museum of arts and was painted on a large oil canvas that was eye opening to the environment as much so as to the color, texture and placement of the items in this one of a kind piece of art.
When the artwork first caught my eye on September 8,2010 in the section dedicated to Chester Arnold called On earth as it is on heaven I noticed a large amount of trash in a large body of water. Imagine a large island made up of only debris that is floating through the rough ocean swaying side to side through a large storm. The trash ranges from cars to house hold appliances and other junk. The trash island is surrounded by large waves with a few dark storm clouds.
This artwork has many different meanings. The most noticeable one is the debris is called, Durable Goods. Meaning at one time the items were used and cherished.  Even though the items have gone through a lot they are here to stay. The second noticeable thing is there is trash in the ocean! How Arnold states on earth as it is on heaven, is this what we will expect in heaven?
The historical reason why Chester Arnold painted this artwork is because the abundance of trash that is accumulating in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. This patch is called The Great Pacific Garbage patch (greatgarbagepatch.org). This Island is becoming larger and toxic and this artwork shows and identifies the problem that needs to be fixed.
This artwork is large and colorful and very nice for a painting of just debris. If this artwork were to go on sale I would consider purchasing it.
